Hi all, first time poster here!
I thought I would let you in on a recent series of problems I have had that have caused much hair loss!
Recently I was trying to register my URL to Microsofts search engine, Bing. For some reason our site was not crawled as per normal, and we had to manually submit the page. This was odd, we felt, but liveable with.
After 2 weeks with no reply from Bing, I resubmitted the link. Still no reply another 2 weeks later.
I decided to create a MSN account and have a look at whether Bings own Webmaster tools would shed any light.
I logged in and found our pages had indeed been indexed...
but the URL was registered as being a GERMAN site. Take a look yourself and see if this is a German website...
http://www.access2.com/I don't know if any of you are familiar with Bings Webmaster tools, but unlike the Google tools there is no function to just switch the region. I didn't know what the hell was going on, so I emailed some experts at Planet Ocean Communications.
They suggested various means to fix this, namely:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-gb" />
<meta name="Country" content="United Kingdom" />
<meta name="geo.position" content=“longitude/latitude of your business”/>
I will let you know if this has fixed our issues.
Anyway. After much digging around, we decided it was time to speak to our WebHost agency to see what was going on. They initially couldn't find any flaws, but after looking closely at their own servers found that the one which supported our site was in Germany run by a company called 1 to 1.
With this imformation at hand you would have thought Bing would have been able to find a fix this relatively small problem considering the billions of dollars they have right? Nope....
The best we could get on the Bing Webmaster forums was a reply from a dev saying it would be implemented sometime in November!!
Small wonder why Google is the top dog in the Search Engine world then huh?
Has anyone else had this problem / similar ones? Any feedback as to what you did would be appreciated.
Regards
Nick
